The second acquisition in 1981 was a central Manchester designated dilapidated property owned by the council. The apartment took a full year to complete, but it partially opened in May 1982 with 25 beds and a nightclub on the top floor. The 5-story, 363-bedroom Britannia Hotel, formerly a dilapidated apartment, is now a well-known landmark and gathering spot across Manchester.

British Transport Hotels, a hotel business of British Rail, was sold off at the end of 1982. Britannia acquired the illustrious Adelphi Hotel, a five-star establishment nestled in the middle of Liverpool, with the proceeds from this deal.
Britannia Hotels made a triumphant return to Manchester in 1987, transforming a dormant structure that had been the city’s C&A department store into the 223-bedroom Sachas Hotel.

The same year saw the acquisition of Bosworth Hall, a hotel in Warwickshire with a country house design. When the builders who were transforming Bosworth Hall into a hotel went bankrupt, Britannia stepped in to finish the job. The original plan for the building’s transformation was to create a 192-room hotel surrounded by 27 acres of lush, verdant landscaping.

In the middle of London’s Docklands, next to Canary Wharf, stood The International Hotel, which was bought and extensively renovated in 1988. Opening night was June 9, 1992.

The next year, Britannia acquired a Stockport hotel with 187 rooms. In 1993, the Britannia Stockport Hotel reopened after a complete renovation. The 211-room Europa Hotel, adjacent to Gatwick Airport, was another acquisition that summer by the Group.

Britannia Birmingham, formerly known as The Birmingham International, is a 200-bedroom hotel located in the heart of the city that was bought in 1994. Another hotel in the West Midlands, the Britannia Wolverhampton, opened in April 1995 and was previously owned by Periquito Hotels. The Royal Court, a 211-bedroom manor house hotel situated on 11 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, was acquired by Britannia in 1996.

After then, the Group bought the London hotel Britannia Hampstead. Located in a peaceful area adjacent to Hampstead Village, this boutique hotel has 103 rooms. Just after this hotel came the Britannia Ashley in Hale, Cheshire, which had 190 rooms, and then came the Britannia Coventry, which had 190 bedrooms after that.

Royal Albion Hotel, Brighton, bought by Britannia in 1997. The hotel, which boasts 180 rooms, is in an ideal location on the beach, within walking distance of both the Royal Pavilion and the Lanes. Britannia bought the 182-room Coventry Hill Hotel a year later, in 1998.

The Britannia Hotel Aberdeen and the Britannia Newcastle Airport Hotel were acquired by Britannia from the 1999 sale of several properties by Moat House Hotels. After that, in July of 2000, they bought the Bournemouth Roundhouse Hotel, and then in Southport, they bought the Prince of Wales Hotel.

Located in Northenden, close to Manchester Airport, Britannia bought The Posthouse in February 2002. With 212 guest rooms, this establishment is now called the Britannia Airport Hotel, Manchester South.

In November 2002, Britannia bought the North Stafford Hotel, which is in the middle of Stoke-on-Trent. With the addition of the North Stafford, Britannia now has 22 hotels, including this classic establishment with 80 rooms. The Norbreck Castle Hotel, which overlooked Blackpool’s seafront, was Britannia’s subsequent addition. Its 363 rooms, many of which have views of the sea, make it an excellent choice for weekend getaways, beach vacations with kids, and corporate events.

The Britannia Wigan, formerly the Wigan/Standish Moat House, became the second Britannia hotel in January 2004, after joining the family in 2002. Four hotels were purchased from the Grand Leisure Group in November 2004. With the addition of the Grand Hotel in Scarborough, Llandudno, Folkestone, and Blackpool, as well as their first hotel in Wales, the total number of hotels in the United Kingdom reached 28, including the Grand Metropole.

The Britannia Nottingham, originally a Holiday Inn, joined the group in August 2005. Located in the heart of the city, this hotel has 160 rooms and excellent conference facilities.
In May 2006, they acquired The Savoy, a 130-room hotel on the front line of Blackpool with views of the sea.

Situated on the East Cliff close to their Roundhouse Hotel, the Britannia Bournemouth Hotel was purchased, renovated extensively (including the addition of leisure facilities), and reopened to the public in July 2006 with the new name. Just one month after that, they presented their two newest additions to the group—the Britannia Bolton, a former Holiday Inn, and the Britannia Leeds Bradford Hotel.

Customers looking for the affordability and simplicity of a “Lodge” were satisfied when Gatwick Lodge opened in July 2009 as a substitute for the Europa Gatwick Hotel. Their third hotel in the region, the 114-room Heathlands Hotel in Bournemouth, was acquired in August 2009. Britannia bought the Russ Hill Hotel in December 2010. It’s a manor home from the 19th century in the picturesque community of Charlwood, which is only four miles from Gatwick Airport. With 130 reasonably priced rooms available, this hotel is ideal for a layover before or after a flight.

A few months down the road, in February 2011, Britannia took pride in announcing that they had acquired Pontin’s Holiday Parks, acquiring all five of their English locations.
